1million worth of crystal meth stoped in nashville,tn

October 8, 2009

The stop of a rental car for following too closely on I-40 east near Bellevue Tuesday afternoon resulted in the seizure of 14 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ICE, with an estimated street value of $1 million.

Interstate Interdiction Unit Officer Jaime Scruggs found the 13 wrapped bricks of contraband hidden in the car after the driver consented to a search. The driver said he was returning to North Carolina after vacationing in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration were called to the scene and have assumed the investigation, which has led to the identification of two additional defendants in Georgia. The names of the persons charged by the DEA are not being released at present so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation.

Georgetown Man Admits to Shooting Men He Believed Were
Federal Informants
One Man Killed, Another Injured in Drug-Related Shooting

OCT 6 -- Columbia, South Carolina - United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated today that Edward McCain, age 18, of Georgetown, South Carolina, pled guilty today in federal court to using a firearm to murder one man and injure another, both he believed were acting as informants against him. United States District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy of Charleston accepted the plea and will sentence McCain at a later date. The minimum penalty McCain can receive is life imprisonment. Because McCain was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, he is not eligible for the death penalty.

Evidence presented in court established that on November 14, 2008, McCain set up a meeting with the two victims, after receiving information that one or both of the men had assisted law enforcement in a major investigation. McCain arranged for the victims to park their car on Gilbert Street in Georgetown, then approached the car and fired at least six shots into it, striking both men. One of the men was killed, while the other suffered serious injury. McCain admitted that he intended to kill both men so that they would not pass information on to law enforcement regarding his drug trafficking activities.

The case was jointly investigated by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Georgetown Police Department, and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Peter Phillips of the Charleston office handled the case.

Three Charged in Massive Heroin Distribution Case
DEA arrests led to fourth largest seizure of heroin ever in U.S.

OCT 06 -- (NEW YORK) - GERARD P. McALEER, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New Jersey Division ("DEA") joined PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, to announce today a Superseding Indictment charging three members of an alleged narcotics conspiracy involved in the distribution of approximately 75 kilograms of heroin, as well as approximately 84 kilograms of cocaine.

According to documents filed in this case, including the Superseding Indictment unsealed in Manhattan federal court:

From October 2008 until July 14, 2009, RAFAEL VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA, a/k/a "Raffa," ALBERTO NIETO, JR., and RAFAEL VARGAS-AGUILAR, worked together to distribute heroin and cocaine in New York and in New Jersey. On March 3, 2009, VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA traveled from New Jersey to Dyckman Street in New York, New York, where he obtained a car with a hidden compartment capable of storing narcotics. On July 14, 2009, VILLAGRANAARREOLA bought a minivan and several duffel bags and took them to a warehouse in New Jersey, after which he met up with NIETO and VARGAS-AGUILAR, who were in a recreational vehicle, at the Ramapo service area on Interstate 87 in New York.

That same day, VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA and VARGAS-AGUILAR transported approximately 75 kilograms of heroin and 84 kilograms of cocaine, hidden in the recreational vehicle, to the warehouse in New Jersey. Law enforcement agents entered the warehouse on July 14, 2009, where they arrested NIETO and found the duffel bags and the secret compartments in the recreational vehicle containing drugs.

VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA was arrested leaving the warehouse; VARGAS-AGUILAR was apprehended later the same day at a motel in New Jersey. The seizure announced today was the fourth largest seizure of heroin in United States history.

VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA, 29, resides in Paterson, New Jersey.

NIETO, 21, resides in Highland, California.

VARGAS-AGUILAR, 56, resides in Tarzana, California.

The defendants have been in custody since their arrests. VILLAGRANA-ARREOLA and NIETO were arraigned today on the Superseding Indictment in Manhattan federal court by United States Magistrate Judge DEBRA FREEMAN.

If convicted, the defendants each face a maximum sentence of life in prison, and a maximum fine of $4,000,000, or twice the gross gain or loss to others from the offense.

Mr. BHARARA praised the outstanding work of the United States DEA for its work in this investigation and thanked the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office for its assistance.

Assistant United States Attorneys NICOLE FREIDLANDER and GLEN KOPP are in charge of the prosecution. The charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

8 KILOS STASHED IN A TIRE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 23, 2009

A joint investigation by Metro Interstate Interdiction Unit officers and Mt. Juliet Police led to this afternoon’s seizure of eight kilograms of cocaine concealed inside the spare tire of a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Tahoe, Rodrigo Leon-Castillo, 36, of Katy, Texas, was arrested and is being charged federally with trafficking cocaine.

Metro officers this afternoon stopped a Chevrolet Impala with Texas plates for a traffic violation in West Nashville. As they spoke with the occupants of the car, one of whom had a drug history, it became clear that they were traveling with a tan Tahoe also with Texas plates. Information on the Tahoe was relayed to Mt. Juliet Police, and Officer Eric Joubert subsequently stopped it for speeding on I-40. Police dog Raptor alerted to the presence of drug odor coming from the vehicle. The spare tire underneath the Tahoe showed signs of tampering. It was removed and concealed inside it were eight packages of cocaine weighing 17.6 pounds. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $250,000. Nearly $900 cash was also recovered.

It is believed that Leon-Castillo was traveling from Houston to Washington, D.C.
